Forklift Training Courses & Experience Levels
. What types of forklift training courses do you offer?
We provide Novice, Semi-Experienced, Refresher and Conversion forklift training, allowing us to select the appropriate course based on each operator’s previous experience and training requirements.
. What is a Novice forklift training course?
Novice training is designed for operators with little or no previous forklift experience. It covers theory, pre-use checks, practical operation, safe load handling and final assessment.
. Who is suitable for a Semi-Experienced forklift training course?
Semi-Experienced training is for operators who already have practical experience operating a forklift but have not previously completed formal training or certification.
. What is forklift Refresher training and who needs it?
Refresher training is designed for previously trained operators who need to refresh their knowledge, practical skills and safe operating techniques.
. What is a forklift Conversion course?
Conversion training is for operators already trained on one type of forklift who need to learn how to safely operate a different truck category or type.
. How do I know which forklift training course I need?
We’ll assess the operator’s previous training, experience and workplace requirements and recommend the most appropriate course before training begins.
. Do I need previous experience to take a forklift training course?
No. Complete beginners can attend our Novice forklift training. We also provide courses for semi-experienced and experienced operators.
. How long does a forklift training course take?
Duration depends on the operator’s experience and course type. For one candidate, Refresher and Conversion training normally takes one day, Semi-Experienced training two days, and Novice training three days. For multiple candidates or different training requirements, contact us and we can arrange a training programme to suit your workforce and operational needs.
. Can experienced forklift operators complete a shorter course?
Yes. Experienced operators may be suitable for Refresher, Semi-Experienced or Conversion training, depending on their previous training and experience.
. Can you train operators whose forklift certificate has expired?
Yes. An experienced operator with previous certification may be suitable for forklift Refresher training. We’ll review their previous training and current experience before recommending the appropriate course.
. Can you train employees with different experience levels at the same workplace?
Yes. We can assess your employees’ individual experience levels and organise the on-site forklift training required for your workforce.
. What forklift and MHE equipment do you provide training for?
We provide training across a wide range of equipment, including Counterbalance, Reach Truck, Bendi/Flexi, VNA Man-Up, Telehandler, Pallet Trucks, Pallet Stackers, Scissor Lifts, Cherry Pickers and other MHE equipment.
Forklift Certification, Testing & Assessments
. Will candidates receive a certificate after completing forklift training?
Yes. Candidates who successfully complete the required training and assessments will receive a forklift training certificate for the equipment category they have been trained on.
. When will forklift training certificates be issued?
Certificates are normally issued within 24–48 working hours after course has completed.
. What assessments are included in forklift training?
Depending on the course, candidates complete theory, pre-use inspection and practical operating assessments to demonstrate their knowledge and ability to operate safely.
. Is there a theory test during the course?
Yes. Candidates complete a theory assessment covering important areas such as operator safety, responsibilities, truck stability and safe operating procedures.
. Is there a practical forklift test?
Yes. Candidates must complete a practical assessment demonstrating safe truck control, observation, manoeuvring and load handling.
. What happens if a candidate does not pass the assessment?
If a candidate does not reach the required standard, we’ll explain the areas that need improvement and recommend additional training and reassessment where appropriate.
. How long is a forklift certificate valid for?
Forklift certificates do not have a fixed legal expiry date. However, refresher training is generally recommended every three years, although this may vary depending on the employer’s company policy, the operator’s performance and workplace requirements.
. When should forklift refresher training be completed?
Refresher training should be considered periodically and whenever necessary, particularly following unsafe operation, an accident or near miss, a significant period without operating, or changes in the workplace or equipment.
. Can you replace a lost forklift training certificate?
If the original training was completed with LP MHE Training and we still hold the relevant training record, contact us and we’ll check whether a replacement certificate can be issued.
. Do you provide employers with training records?
Yes. Appropriate training and assessment records are maintained following completion of the course, helping employers keep evidence of operator training.
. Do you provide AITT-accredited certification?
Yes. AITT-accredited certification is available where required. Please let us know when requesting your quotation so we can confirm the appropriate certification for your training.
. What information is shown on the forklift training certificate?
The certificate identifies the trained operator, course completed and relevant truck or equipment category, providing evidence that the candidate successfully completed the required training and assessment.
